SUMMARY

With over twelve years of experience, I am a seasoned Data Science and AI/ML professional specializing in building and deploying R&D solutions to solve complex problems at scale. I have led teams to develop algorithms that empower drivers to save money through safer driving, while also creating advanced crash detection systems that provide assistance and expedite the claims process resulting in close to $300M in yearly revenue. As the second employee to join TrueMotion, I played a pivotal role in the creation of the core algorithms that formed the company’s primary product offerings, resulting in nine patents and contributing to TrueMotion’s $650M+ acquisition. Most recently, my focus was on developing telematics data-based foundation models, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at establishing a new generation of AI models utilizing telematics data.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), Cambridge, MA June 2021 – October 2025

Head of Data Science October 2024 – October 2025

  • Led the Data Science Group at CMT, the world leader in telematics, servicing eight out of the top ten auto insurance companies in the United States
  • Managed a global team of 30 data scientists and engineers responsible for developing and maintaining algorithms that process sensor data from over 15 million active users daily
  • Spearheaded the development of the first foundation model trained on telematics sensor data to significantly advance driver risk segmentation and crash detection

Director of Data Science / Senior Data Science Manager June 2021 – October 2024

  • Drove the adoption of Gen AI to deliver personalized insights that empower users to improve their driving skills
  • Led the Data Science component of the platform consolidation project to unify the best elements of the TrueMotion and CMT data processing pipelines
  • Facilitated the development of Road Risk Maps, which calculate the crash risk of road segments based on extrinsic risk factors, such as road conditions, traffic volume, telematics data and crash history

TrueMotion (Acquired by Cambridge Mobile Telematics), Boston, MA Dec 2013 – June 2021

Senior Data Science Manager Sep 2020 – June 2021

  • Led the UBI Data Science team to implement a rideshare driver detection algorithm and create improved versions of hard brake, distraction and crash detection algorithms
  • Pioneered the development of an on-phone hard brake detection algorithm (neural network tensorflow model), which provided real time feedback in the form of audio alerts to users

Senior Data Scientist / Data Science Manager June 2017– Aug 2020

  • Took over technical team leadership role for the R&D team responsible for developing UBI (Usage Based Insurance) features
  • Led the team to develop the most advanced Driver/Passenger algorithm in the telematics industry with an accuracy of greater than 95%, which received strong feedback from companies during trials and in production

Data Scientist Dec 2013 – May 2017

  • Developed methods to fuse smartphone sensor data (GPS, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer) in order to extract signals indicating phone movements and alignment in a car
  • Designed algorithms to identify automobile braking events using sensors from the smartphone, which played a major role in TrueMotion winning its first customer
  • Utilized sensor data, map data and machine learning methods, such as Random Forests, to detect a user’s mode of transportation, including airplanes and public transportation

Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories, Cambridge, MA Aug 2013 – Nov 2013

Research Intern

  • Estimated non-technical losses in an electricity distribution network using smart meter data to identify power thefts
  • Work resulted in a well-received research paper, “Electricity theft detection using smart meter data” (138 citations)
